CentOS is designed for legacy support, so of course the apps are old, and it boots slow for all the network services it will start. CentOS is good even on a netbook, my aspire one uses it now, I did not like fedora 12, so I tried CentOS, glad I did. The install uses ethrnet and 1024×768 on the aspire one, but once it boots you get wifi and the correct res.
Well , It really depends on the purpose of your server, and if you are used working in linux environment. I’ve had web servers – radius – game servers – file servers… on it , and it’s rock solid. You should always try to optimize your server for it’s purpose , and Centos is great for that! Ubuntu as a lot of stuff that you don’t need and you have to search it and remove it, kind of boring work . Hope this helps you. Good Luck
CentOS allows you to customize it (before) setup.
That is one of its powers you just make your system as you want it you can even launch a automated script that does that for you after one time.
If you look at the video you will see at 1.08 Wacom panel which is automaticly installed if you just click without thinking.
Further more there is a huge difference between outdated software and current advised versions.
Try to actually review it next time instead of clicking randomly through it.
oh, if you haven’t been informed yet, most of the users who actually uses linux on a day to day basis doesn’t use it as a desktop platform. On top of that, the real users doesn’t even boot directly to gnome.
But the facts remains, CentOS remains the leading server backend for many of today’s smaller private servers. If you’re not a programmer nor an advanced user and demands to have a desktop, why are you using Linux to begin with?
yo man plzzzzz i beg of u … this is driving me crazy …. plz tell me where u got that song …. im gessing u did it … its sounds amateurish (in a way ) but is also sounds very professional … ne way all i know is that i luv this song … so if u cuold tell me where u got it id apreciate it thanx & peace
CENTOS is a platform based on redhat, and it is server oriented. The software that you get pre-instaled and from the repositories are only the stables versions, not new, fancy ,crashable versions! Can take a little bit more to boot But once on it is rock solid.I’ve been using this distro in many servers and i guarantee you this is a rock solid linux server!I’ve used it as a desktop also, you just need to know what your doing to improve your desktop experience on this baby. If not, go for ubuntu!
yum install php php-mysql mysql mysql-server
done
This looks allot like Ubuntu, but it looks more like Debian!!
You’d be better off finding a tutorial for fedora. It should work on CentOS

madox750, you can run wine on any linux (I think it depends on the kernel, not the OS), and then run CoD4 through that.
Both CentOS and wine is free.
you know any good tutorials for setting up php, mysql, and apache on centOS?
CentOS is the best for me, cause i run my Servers in this Operating System.
U can manage a Web Server,MySQL,FTP,Cabal Server,Browser Games, and Other Games, etc.
CentOS is the Best for Server not for Desktop
and it is Good for Business too.
CentOS essentially is RHEL… so if it gives you problems CentOS isn’t really going to be any different, bud.
uhm im probaly going to sound super stupid here but can i like run call of duty 4 on that os and is it free?
rob if u go Centos u wont leave redhat :] and yes Centos over ubuntu for servers
CentOS is good for servers. That is why the majority of companies that run/manage servers choose CentOS. It is fully customizable.
You suck at reviewing. You just open a whole bunch of shit and call it a review…

Some people like myself just find it fun to learn to use Linux. Along the way I’ve found some very practical reasons for it.
Im thinking leaving red hat forever, would you recommend CentOS over Ubuntu server?

Good for business or server. (or desktop if you like old, stable software) Not good for desktop if you like new software.
