  1. I am a Network Intrusion Detector construction and use of FreeBSD-based sensors for use in the workplace and at home. I try an increase my “end user” perspective with the skills of an administrator. I wanted to with my limited knowledge of the installation and configuration of FreeBSD add.

Ted says that his book for FreeBSD administrators beginning “and” Running the Microsoft operating system and networking is written as a priority. “That is correct. The reader is perfectly comfortable with the handling and installation of FreeBSD, but is not sure how best to implement FreeBSD-based e-mail, web, print, or serve Windows shares. Newbies can not find enough to keep his hand and experts on a one-page diet can not be met.

A unique aspect of the book is his analysis of Microsoft products. With FreeBSD, n Ted “did not hesitate to lift the rock of Microsoft and show the error under noise. Windows can some of his religious advice on the administration of Microsoft messaging products!

accommodate this 400-page book devotes sections of important non-BSD issues like lobbying and history (40 + pages), the router configuration, and general e-mail services, which didn ‘t bother me. similar approach to Rod Smith in the Multi-Boot Configuration Guide, the inclusion of material on the strict FreeBSD configuration contributes to improved well-rounded system administrators. Those who are more detailed and explicit instructions would perhaps be less history and more control on-line configuration.

The main feature is the extent of the author’s knowledge and dedication to FreeBSD, several products in conjunction with Microsoft OS. Who should be the TCP / IP under DOS, and FreeBSD to speak to him? If you do, check out this book! (Good memories installing Windows Trumpet Winsock 3. 1 in 1994 has resurfaced in reading p. 56). The weak point is the assumption, implicit in the book that the reader is the guy that is comfortable to read the man pages. While Ted seems to be respected for Beginners (note the term “shell”, also felt on page 18), but I was the tug of the manual page.

I hope that this book is a success, and encourages updates to FreeBSD Greg Lehey “Complete” and inspired other FreeBSD gurus to write their own books. Thanks for the good work Ted!

Buy CNG FreeBSD, if you (for a weekend and want to) discover and play with FreeBSD. It is a question of Nice for 49 euros. 95. It is also a useful acquisition for the users more liquid for a book that brings together information on where to find information on FreeBSD.

I confess now, I have not bought the book for the content, but the FreeBSD 4th 2 CD-ROM. A cheap way, a recent release, without an obscene amount of data downloaded over the Internet to obtain. An act of impulse consumption will say.

I am not) are not at all (to read an expert on FreeBSD, but I’ve already installed and used on different computers. So, I’m not the best person to say whether or not you can CNG for FreeBSD from scratch. But I would say yes, because if the reading a few chapters you will see that the author actually went through the stuff of which he speaks.

If you arrive at a roadblock during the installation and configuration of FreeBSD, you will probably find a way out of the pit, while you browse the book. The text is from tips that will be fully funded by the bloody parts of the initial installation of FreeBSD Handbook, and the future configuration changes. In any case, as the author himself says on the front page, read the manuals and online documentation (thank you for that so). To which we must add that the installation of FreeBSD when compared to other operating systems easily, which allegedly do everything for you.

Although I do not think that is his main objective, the FreeBSD CNG is a good compromise between the other two books on FreeBSD: The Complete FreeBSD “(which begins with the basics, but a little outdated always a good introduction has for beginners) and the FreeBSD Handbook (which no structure or an index, and you will receive online and on your system when it is running). If you are not fluent in basic UNIX also buy a “good” UNIX Administration Manual. My own century: UNIX System Administration Handbook Evi Nemeth and others, PH / PTR. The CNG

FreeBSD provides a good overview of what you expect from FreeBSD. It goes into technical issues: the history, advocacy, coexistence with Windows. Useful for system administrators who want to introduce in a society FreeBSD.

It also provides some unexpected information (Discourse on the ISP for example). You will love it because the author does not say how things should be, but how they are. There are lots of goodies you can show off the reuse of people (but do not do it because you never know who) you are talking about. Moreover, the author has so uncontroversial (if you want controversy, go to Slashdot . org). The FreeBSD CNG

covers much ground () always a challenge. The author does it well. If you buy and read this book, you should use FreeBSD. As the French: Try to say “you the user.

  3. I was one of the reviewers of this book, and I am very excited to see how made this book.

often overlooked, I would cover a book people when they ask: “How …ยป. This seems to this need, although the overflow :-)

Ted really knows where his towel, and If I launch a complaint against the book, it will be that it sometimes gets off track, “peering ISPs” for example. But Ted knows that his data, and I’m sure many people will learn a lot from the book, than they had expected.

In this book, I have a lot of information, which I’m sure I could find on the web somewhere, but after it all here in one volume, this is my guide / reference shelf, an honor shared by only 17 other books.

I’m not there ten times as many books on Linux, FreeBSD, if books are just so good.

In a genre where there are not many books, FreeBSD, this book offers a big show of how the program can be installed FreeBSD to work with network equipment. The range of hearing of this book is very good, from the beginner level and moves up to the people who live and breathe in FreeBSD, but some issues may be a beginner to scratch their heads when they read the cause to start first time.

It is really nice to see that the author devoted a little book about how to get FreeBSD to house jobs in addition to Microsoft Windows Server, and also in (non-replacement) Cisco devices. In this way, people can not see replacing everything they to work with FreeBSD.

The book has some typos and small mistakes, but almost no technical book has errors. Do not think the material is dry. . . because it contained a bit of humor and awareness. Overall BSD Great book, and I hope we will see more books of this caliber.

If you are looking for a tutorial that you install FreeBSD and the kernel you are looking at the wrong conduct re-compilation. If you are an experienced network administrator / user who wishes to take this knowledge with FreeBSD, you will feel in heaven.

The book is an excellent guide to configure a complete and highly reliable network / workstation (Web, FTP, mail, firewall, etc.), compatible with many other operating systems.

There are few books that promise to meet them with the title to be, but it is an example of a very concentrated on the area that wants to meet the author, too.

is a good thing to support the FreeBSD project, but it’s better if you get what you want for your dollar. You can, however, the “Manual”, “The Complete FreeBSD Book” or “get FreeBSD Unleashed” for a better knowledge of FreeBSD, and if you feel comfortable with the operating system, then refine this book to your network services.
