“Karmic Koala”, or the newest release of Ubuntu, is, well, the newest release of Ubuntu. It has some graphical upgrades and a faster boot time. The Add/Remove Programs had a small makeover.

  2. Vektr1 says:

@fdemey I installed every thing seems to be working fine (driver wise). ALTHOUGH, if you’re video card is an ATI, you might experience issues. Screen freezing, not loading up, etc. Happened to me.

  3. fdemey says:

@Vektr1 same question. Someone should be able to anwser.

  4. thedippytheory says:

@sreeju050 He’s not trying to use a virtual machine, his computer’s screwed up because of Vista and he’s thinking of switching completely to Linux.

  7. zikalify says:

@enterZ Well thats the problem, games are made by paid companys mostly (as in paid i mean like activision etc) but the more ppl who adopt linux theyll notice and start releasing games on tht platform or alt until tht time u cud use game consoles :/ but tbh everything else (well mostly) i prefer on linux thn windows. meh

  8. enterZ says:

does not. tried it today and my games dropped 10-20fps. so no. sux. love the idea but game suport it needs better.

  9. zikalify says:

  12. jjeittiirr says:

i use wubi to install ubuntu so now i can dual boot ubuntu, and vista

  13. Vektr1 says:

I have a dell with XP installed on it. I want to dual boot install ubuntu on it. I’m worried if the software drivers will be compatible (sound, video, etc.) Anyone know?

  14. zikalify says:

Dude put ubu as ur primary OS it kicks win7’s butt

  15. zikalify says:

Erm, if you format your harddrive and use ubuntu as your primary OS then say goodbye to vista, if you put it in virtual box then it just runs in its own window as a windows program. If you want ubu running on ur pc as an OS like vista you can partition the HDD but u sound like a noob so i wouldnt suggest it ;)

  16. sreeju050 says:

then what is the use of using a virtual machine

  17. DominatorMatrix says:

Yes, you can download ubuntu to a flash drive, or a CD (google how to install ubuntu on either) boot from it and poof bi pass windows.

  18. JAMD456 says:

Also Linux does not get viruses, it is more secure to began with

  19. thedippytheory says:

Yes, there is a way. You will need to use someone else’s computer to download Ubuntu, and burn it to the disc using that computer. Place the disk in your drive, restart, and make sure that the CD Drive is the first boot priority. This is default on most computers, so don’t worry. Then just install… You can even get rid of Vista completely if you want to. This is a little advanced, so you might want to do your homework and get a little help. Hope I helped.

  24. matthewgsteel says:

I currently have Vista, but when I try to log on to any of my accounts (including the administrator) I get the message “The User Profile Service service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded.” Safe mode doesn’t work. System Restore doesn’t work. I want to try Ubuntu. Is there a way to install it without logging on to a profile? If not, I’m screwed.
