Paper Session AsiaBSDCon 2010. Abstract: Sndio is improved audio and MIDI subsystems OpenBSD. He has an offer audio and MIDI and a new server API based on the library. The proposed framework attempts to meet most requirements desktop applications, but gives special attention to timing mechanisms required for music applications. The current implementation supports conversions, resampling, mixing, channels, sharing device, and synchronization of audio streams. In addition, the volume of each application and timing are controlled by the MIDI standard protocols, allowing interoperability not only with MIDI applications, but also with MIDI hardware connected to the machine. The simplicity and robustness of the architecture, design and implementation are part of the requirements, so some essential features complicated or not is not provided (eg, effects, transparency, monitoring network,). First, we present the problem sndio trying to solve and the project objectives. Then, we discuss all technical options to try to show they are a natural consequence of the project objectives. Then, we present the architecture resulting sndio. Finally, we show a few use cases to illustrate how sndio is used in real life.

Paper Session AsiaBSDCon 2010. Abstract: We started the implementation of SMP OpenBSD / sgi SGI Octane and selected the target machine first. At the time of writing, SMP support works and has been merged into the main shaft.

Some of the guys from Sun Microsystems put OpenSolaris ZFS file system to the test. They had already destroyed a disc with a hammer, but the PC continued to run. Pretty neat stuff.

Paper Session AsiaBSDCon 2010. Abstract: A frank discussion of the architectural and aesthetic defects (but not bugs) in the standard BSD packet filter. Some of them are largely internal matters related to the Code: The internal data structures, readability and maintainability of the code, others, etc. have their roots in the compromises of design: simplicity vs the rich syntactic and stability over time, portability vs. tight integration with other subsystems. Solve many problems is a challenge, especially since the flavors of the OpenBSD project “evolutionary” more “revolutionary” change. To illustrate the approach, the speech will include a closer examination of the recently completed restructuring the state-table, most completed within 4 to come. 7 Release but initially planned in 2004 and implemented over 6 + releases.
